The Old Man!

One good, pleasant afternoon, walking down the road, I got a sight of an old man dressed in a rugged old piece of brown cloth. The colour of the cloth had faded due to the many climated traumas, it must have had to face.

Sitting on the edge of a small community park, the old man had a glass of water in his hand. The glass was slightly broken, although it didn’t seem to bother him at all, it was the piece of cloth that really mattered to him in that cold weather afternoon. The old man was also holding a stick in his left hand just to remind him of the various dangers of living on the street, there I could also see a small wall separating him from the park, where the children were playing, dancing and chatting to each other. Some of them were accompanied by their parents, to keep a close watch on them and also on others ……. like the old man..

In the eyes of this old man I could see water, the depth of his eyes and the water flowing from them reminded me of the bitter reality of life. There was pain in his eyes, anguish and frustration on his face; was he angry with me, because I had been staring at him for a long time or was it that he was angry of something else or may be his expressions where like that, frozen in time, may be it was so because of the similar circumstance he had been going through, of that of betrayal from others, loneliness, or that of finding a bower every night he went to sleep.

But in spite of all this, there was one thing that I could make out from his deep wild eyes, it was faith, it was the faith in him that had kept him alive to date. Faith in God, whom may be , he used to curse every night before going to sleep or may be in the morning when he could not find a bread to eat. But it was faith in God that had kept him alive.

I could see it from the curves on his face. The facial muscles were stretched but were not at all tense, there was this heavenly feeling, when the old man looked up at the sky, in hope that something , somewhere is watching him. The greatest achievement was this for him, keeping the faith on that unseen heavenly body, guiding him and helping him to stay alive.

A human mystery, 'GOD' !
